Phil Goddard, service manager of Groupe Brandt had a requirement
to fax each job out to the 80 engineers located around the
country. This was done manually and employed somebody for
several hours per day.
Phil looked at Unix fax server solutions as he was running
Sage CS3 and FSMS on their HP SCO server. When he found that
an "Off the peg" solution would cost around £10K
he asked us to see if we could solve his problem.
We built Phil a Linux server and installed the Hylafax fax
server software onto it. By making some small changes to an
FSMS report to allow it to parse the engineers fax numbers
to the fax server, we were able, with the use of a couple
of scripts, to automate the entire process. Phil was pleased
with the £2K price tag and didn't expect to get Windows
desktop faxing thrown in too!
This system transmits some 200 faxes per day without placing
any extra load on the SCO server.
